First the color. It is a very nice white that sparkles. Those twihards would love it. Not so great if you are a guy, unless you are a guy who likes to sparkle.
About the game. It is not user friendly for the controls that the PSP has. I lost interest in the game within minutes. Although, after connecting my PSP to the wireless internet in my home, which by the way works wonderfully, (also, it is very much worth it to visit the X5 website for the OSX portal..itunes is awesome) and going to the Playstation store I was able to download old PS1 games for around $10. I bought FF VIII and Silent hill. Now that brings me to one of my biggest complaints.
Sony made it super easy and user friendly to find, download, and get on the internet but gives you a wussy 2GB card which I filled up in the first day. Sony also sells replacement cards at 4GB and 8GB but they are grossly overpriced. You can get no namers for much less here on Amazon.
Next complaint. Download times on these games is LONG. How long? FF VIII took one whole day at 12mbs internet connection and Silent Hill took 5 hours the next day on the same connection. If I tried to do something else with my PSP while I waited, the download would cancel.
No apps at all and no third person software. Other than the X5, which is a hack at best, there is not much outside of the box you can do with your PSP like some savvy DS users are able to do.
No camera. Mic check, but no camera? To buy a camera you must go to Hong Kong…no kidding. There is a menu for the camera and the photos it takes, but no camera. I find this frustrating. For the price, bring back the camera.
Next, battery life. I’m lucky to get 3 hours at best. Sony no longer carries the larger battery and to find one for the 3000 is difficult. I did find one here on Amazon but the battery cover is much larger and the color will not match this particular PSP. You get black or silver.
It plays music and such but is no replacement for the ipod, again X5 allowed me to use itunes but being it is a portal, it only works with an internet connection…again savvy DS users have ways around this due to more open software.
The games look great, the screen is crisp and large for a handheld. Although, the PSP is totally lacking in new games. It’s pitiful actually, their only saving grace is downloadable PS1 games.
The way I hold the PSP I often find myself accidently turning it off. The on off is right next to your right hand. I have since learned to not do that. The sound is decent through the internal and headphone speakers.
It does what I need it to do, which is kill time at work, yeah I get paid to play PSP jealous? So I guess for that it’s great. Otherwise I would suggest if you want a real solid hand held stick with the DS until Sony or someone else comes out with a better console. I don’t feel the Sony is worth the price.
Oh, before I forget…the free movie is Angels and Demons with this pack (code for download from store). Like someone said already, you will need to put that movie on it’s own memory stick if you plan to also use said memory stick for games. They just take up an ungodly amount of room. Not worth it at all to watch a movie on a tiny screen.
I am not a fan boy of the DS nor do I own one. I can only say my 9 year old nephew’s DS can do much more than the PSP and the price is a deal compared to the PSP.
EDIT: I needed to edit my review since owning the PSP for over a month now. I am changing the rating to one star. The machine always got on the internet and ran wonderfully for a hand held. Browsing the store was easy and great. Lot’s of games there. Until three days ago. I get a 2000006 error when I try to update or log into the store. A call to support was not help. They suggested some trouble shooting but nothing worked. They also suggested updating to 6.20 which I got done telling them twice I already was at 6.20. So they suggested I return it. A quick google and it would seem there is a fair percentage of people with this same issue. None of the fixes work. I am returning the system.

I have wanted a PSP for a while and i finally took the plunge. The wait was well worth it. This is a great game to start with, the graphics are nice and the system itself just calls to you. I highly suggest this to kids at heart. Great entertainment. I handle it with care because i dont want to ruin the finish but it can take the hands-on approach very well. It survived my nephews. I just Love it!

The free movie is a code you enter, it did not work for my son. Still have not gotten help from Playstation. SO would have been cheaper to buy seperately. The card it comes with was not even big enough to download the movie.

Purchased this for my son, who is deployed in Afganistan. He wanted this unit for it’s compact size and features. This PSP 3000 fits the bill and he enjoys playing Assassin’s Creed.
